Happy World Photography Day!

Introduction Ever since it was the first modern cameras were invented in the 19th century, photographs have been used to preserve images. The first photograph took eight hours to take; today we can snap a photo using our phones, whenever we like! World Photography Day celebrates photography with events on social media, and encourages people to share their own photos. Although cameras are a relatively recent invention, the principle behind them has been known for thousands of years. The Ancient Greeks used the principle in their camera obscure, which projects an image through a small hole. What changed in the 19th century was that inventors like Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, Louis Daguerre and William Henry Fox Talbot developed ways to preserve the image, using chemicals to fix the image onto a surface.
